Story Title: I'm Slightly Breaking
Story: AU: WE ARE
Summary: Jiro discovers the painful truth - Taka is broken.
I.
Sometimes she cried; never in front of him, but she cried. He could hear it coming from the bathroom in the early hours of the morning; body shaking sobs that chilled Jiro to the core. He knew what her parents had done to her; he’d seen peaks of her scars. But, when they had been separated, she had been alone, with no one to protect her. That was why he never asked her why she cried; he was scared of the answer.
After all, he was with her at night – he was the one to comfort her after the nightmares.
II.
The nightmares really were the worst thing. They happened nearly every night and yet they surprised Jiro all the same. She slept soundly, looking more peaceful than she ever could be in her waking hours. Until . . . she would begin shaking; she’d bolt awake - screaming as if someone was trying to kill her. Jiro always tried desperately to calm her; holding her in his arms and whispering words of comfort. It never helped. They simply had to wait until she became exhausted and fell back into a deep sleep.
During the daylight, neither spoke of the nightmares.
III.
“I want to know what happened to her.”
“Her parents weren’t very nice. So, she became emotionally and socially awkward and delayed.”
Jiro rolled his eyes. “When we were apart.”
Shrugging, Shin-woo kept his eyes on his video game. “She never said.”
“We both know you hacked her files.”
“They weren’t very kind. She was considered a failure by the adults. The other children hated her. Beatings, bullying, being locked in closets and toilets were the norm. Some boys stole something from her. The adults never cared.”
“I want names.”
Shin-woo smiled innocently. “Why Oto Jiro whatever are you planning?”
IV.
As his already bloody fist hit the teen’s jaw, Jiro heard a loud crack. He felt a malicious smirk spread across his face as he pulled back for another hit. The teen lay on the cold ground, trying to recover; Jiro punched him again. Again and again, Jiro kicked and punched him – even after the teen had stopped moving.
Jiro stepped back, cleaning his sticky hands on his pants legs. He stared at the still body of the boy; his wicked leer growing even larger. “That,” he began in a low – poisonous – snarl. “was for Nojima Kazuko and Masaki Taka.”
