Story Title: Fateful Day
Story: AU WE ARE
Summary: Kaori receives a phone call from a hospital in Korea
Author's Note: Takes place in 1988 or so.
Kaori is twenty-six when she receives the call from the hospital in Seoul. At first Kaori is terrified, the voice on the other end is much too calm and its Japanese is third-grade level at best. Kaori has heard this voice, or one similar to it, once before.
The last time she heard it had been two years ago; it had called to tell her that Takara had been shot in the arm. That’s why Kaori is so scared the moment the voice says Takara’s name. She can only make out some of the words, but once the voice stops speaking Kaori understands;
Takara was nearly shot, but the bullet missed. Takara and Chan-wook are alright, but will be in the hospital for a few days due to injuries. Coldly, Kaori tells the voice “Thank you,” and hangs up.
It’s at the moment that Kaori reasons it’s time to take Takara back. She can be the proper older sister – she won’t be jealous anymore. . .
When Kaori spies a picture of Shinji, Takara, and Chan-wook from years before, on her nightstand, Kaori changes her mind. Takara can stay with Chan-wook; the three of them are better off where they are now, there is no need to change things.
