Story Title: Visit
Summary: Before the birth of their children, Mason and his mystery woman (Yuri) pay a visit to the graves of his family members.
Author's Note: Takes place sometime in late 2018.
They walk slowly up the path to the burial mounds. There are five now, and perhaps one day there will be more. Chan-wook once told him that there should have been another grave there, right beside the first burial mound, but it didn’t work out that way. So, right now, there are only five.
One hand stays protectively on her back, and his other hand is in one of hers; it would be bad if she fell now. He thinks they should have waited a bit to come, but she had wanted to visit before she became too large.
They stop in front of the first grave, and he introduces her; “Great-aunt, this is Yuri.” He smiles softly and points down the row of burial mounds. “There is Uncle, Mother, Ling’er, and Ahjuhssi.”
She looks at the burial mounds for a long moment, before barely whispering; “No one could be lonely here.”
Gently, he guides her to Takara’s burial mound. “Mother, this is Yuri.” Awkwardly – her belly’s a bit large – Yuri bows to the burial mound. He places a hand on Yuri’s belly. “Children, this is your grandmother, Takara.”
“Was she very beautiful?” Yuri wonders out-loud.
“All the women in our family are beautiful.” He kisses the side of her forehead. “We should go soon; our plane leaves in two hours.”
Yuri nods slowly and offers her bows to Takara and Chan-wook’s burial mounds. “Mother, Father, we’ll come again another day.” she looks at him with worry. “Mason, do you think they like me?”
Mason grins widely. “Of course they do. I never met Mother, but Ahjuhssi and Mama always told us that she was a wonderful and caring woman.”
Again, Yuri nods. She slips her hand into Mason’s. “Ling’er, Uncle, Great-aunt, Mother, Father . . . when we come again it will be with our children. Please look after them now and forever.”
As Mason leads Yuri back down the path, he thinks that his family will look after his new family. They owe him that much, after all.
