Story Title: Wishing Well
Summary: Jin and Taka celebrate Jin's 37th birthday
On Jin’s thirty-seventh birthday, Taka takes him to an amusement park. She’s not overly fond of them, but its Jin’s birthday. They spend the day riding some of the less scary rides and eating junk food. At twilight, they watch a puppet show. It makes Jin laugh; the edge’s of Taka’s lips twitch, but she doesn’t quite smile.
At the entrance to the amusement park, there’s a fountain. Jin stops at it and takes a few coins from deep inside his pocket.
“We should make a wish, Taka.” Wordlessly, Taka takes a couple of coins from Jin’s cold hand. “Wish for something good. One, two, three,”
The duo tosses their coins into their magic fountain. Jin is beaming with pride when he glances to Taka.
“You did well, Little Sister.”
“I have a good arm.” Taka agrees. She pauses for a moment. “Throwing away money is uneconomical.”
Jin smiles and pats her shoulder. “You have to pay for wishes to come true. That’s what someone told me when I lived in America.”
Taka takes that in for a moment; but, she decides that she doesn’t agree with that logic – it isn’t flawed, it’s just not for her. To pay for something makes sense, but they aren’t the kind that pays for things they really want.
“I do not understand.” Taka states simply.
Gently, Jin pats Taka on the head, as if she is a beloved pet. “You don’t have to. You just have to wish for something you really want.”
“What if what you want cannot be gotten from money?”
Now that was a question only a child of Geum Chan-wook would ask. Money could get you anything, after all - At least, according to the Old Man.
“Then, you toss the money to bring you luck.” He scratches the back of his blue-colored-haired head in embarrassment. “I guess.”
The look Taka gives Jin lets him know she’s not buying it. “I am going to get our money back now.” she starts toward the fountain.
“Taka!”
Taka stops and turns to stare at Jin. “Yes?”
“You can’t take it back. If you do, by wish won’t come true.”
“Oh.” she pauses. “What did you wish for?”
Jin smiles again. “A family reunion; Mama, the kids, my sister-in-law, my two sisters and my three brothers.”
Taka decides not to take the money back; after all, she wishes for the same thing.
