Story Title: Back of the Van, Men
Summary: Being forced to sleep in the back of a tiny van sucks.
Author's Note: A squeal to Family Outing.
Chan-wook had somehow gotten the front seat of the van, while Ling’er had gotten the passenger seat. Which meant everyone else was stuck in the back of the van. It had been uncomfortable enough riding to the beach in the back of the van, now they were being forced to sleep there. It made all of them wish horrible things onto Chan-wook and Ling’er.
Behind the driver's seat, Jin, Eddie, and Aoi sat in a row. Jin had curled himself up against the back of Chan-wook’s driver seat. Eddie and Aoi were close together; Aoi leaned herself against Eddie’s side, her right arm wrapped around his, and her legs tugged under her. Eddie kept his body close to Aoi, resting his head on top of Aoi’s.
Across from them, Mason, Jiro, and Taka sat; all cramped together. Taka had taken Jin’s advice and cramped herself up against the back of the passenger’s seat. Jiro had curled himself into a rather awkward looking ball. And, Mason had stuffed himself against one of the van’s back doors.
“I can’t feel my legs.” Jiro muttered under his breath. He really did want to uncurl himself, but if he did so, his legs would knock into Eddie. “Ling’er trade places with me.”
Ling’er didn’t even bother to look back at him. Instead, she simply stated; “Denied.”
Sticking his tongue out, Jiro spoke loudly; “Ling’er you’re so mean.”
Glaring, Jin tried to kick Jiro, but ended up stretching too far and bumping Eddie while kicking Taka. Eddie bumped into Aoi, who fell into the van’s back door with a loud thud. Taka glanced sideways at Jin, but didn’t seem affected.
“Sorry,” Jin muttered.
Aoi gave Jin a look, as Eddie helped her sit up properly. “Ouch, that hurts, Jiro. Watch how you move.”
“Really sorry.” Jin gave Aoi a small smile, which she didn’t return. “But, he was being mean to Ling’er and –“
“Wait!” Mason cut-in, sounding rather annoyed. “Whose hand is on my thigh?” He gave Jiro a look. “Why is your hand on my thigh?”
With a confused look, Jiro glanced down to see his hand was indeed on Mason’s thigh. “Bad hand.” with a smirk, he removed his hand and placed it in his lap. “It must have thought we were at work. You do have very lady-like thighs.”
Scowling Mason pushed Jiro, who bumped into Taka, who bumped into the back of the passenger seat. From the front, Ling’er let out a tiny yelp of surprise. Jiro tugged on Taka’s long sleeve to help the two sit back up.
“Sorry, Taka.” Mason offered the younger woman a polite smile. “You okay?”
Taka simply nodded firmly, while Jiro dusted her off. “My poor Tak-Tak could have bruises.”
Annoyance was beginning to grow inside Eddie. This place was more cramped than any of the dives Chan-wook had had them live in before. The six in the back were so tightly together that there was no way any of them would be able to sleep. What was worse, in order to all fit into the back comfortably enough to attempt sleep, they had been forced to put their belongings under the van.
“This place is too small. We’re beating and molesting each other back here, Ahjuhssi.” Eddie stated, as he leaned over Jin to hit the back of the driver’s seat. For his part, Chan-wook just made a sound that sounded a bit like a light snore, before turning over in the seat. Chan-wook was already deeply asleep and showing no signs of waking up.
“There are things that a man must do, and this is one of them.” Eddie stated firmly. “I’m leaving.”
“E-cchi. . . ”
“Aoi, it’s okay. I’m sleeping on the beach. It may be freezing outside, but in here . . . it’s cramped, damp, and who knows what kinds of noises Ahjuhssi will make during the night.”
The more the others thought about it, the more it became clear Eddie had a point. Maybe they would be better on the beach.
“We should have money for a room.” Jin thought out-loud. “Why don’t any of us ever have money?” The others simply looked at him. He was the one who always had money thanks to Kaori. And wasn’t he going to be a doctor soon. “I don’t have any money. Mama wires it to an account in America.”
“Money is money.” Mason stated matter-of-factly. “And –“
“I have money.” A quiet and oh so matter-of-fact voice spoke up from the corner. Chan-wook snored louder, Ling’er muttered something in her sleep, but the rest turned their full attention to Taka.
Jiro felt his lips spread into a wide smile. Happily, he leaped onto Taka’s side, attaching himself firmly to her. “My Tak-Tak is brilliant. How much do you have; enough for a room?”
Slowly and stiffly, Taka nodded. “Yes,”
“Jiro,” Mason forcefully pulled the younger man off Taka. “don’t grab her like that. How much do you have Taka? We won’t force you to spend all your money tonight, if we can’t find ways to pay you back tomorrow.”
Taka held up two fingers, put them down and repeated the step several times.
“Jeez, two million yen? Tak-Tak, that’s hardly anything. It may be the off-season, but hotels around here are a lot, you know. A room is at least three million."
Again, Taka shook her head slowly. “Not two million.”
“Ah! You miscounted. Lucky!” Aoi stated with a large smile. “Right, Jin?”
Jin could hardly hold back his happiness. “Yes. Taka said six million yen.”
“Six million?” Eddie was sure his jaw had dropped to the ground. “How did you get six million yen?”
Taka simply shrugged as Jiro latched himself onto her right arm. “Who cares? Now we can get a room.” Taka slowly shook her head. “No? You won’t give it to us? Taka,” Jiro let out a rather loud gasp. “I’m surprised. Don’t you love us? Your Wall of Words says you love us.”
“Rooms must be booked a week ahead.” Taka answered. “You’ve all forgotten that.”
This revelation was met with groans and soft curses from the group. Chan-wook continued to snore and Ling’er continued to mutter in her sleep. The van was silent for a long time after Taka spoke, until:
“There was a Love Hotel a few miles from here,” Mason thought out loud. “we could drive there. Let Ahjuhssi sleep in this van, and we get a couple of rooms.”
Jiro and Eddie exchanged a look before laughing.
“That’s dirty,“ Jiro stated with a smirk.
“I like it.” Eddie added with a smile, lazily throwing an arm over Aoi’s shoulder. “We move Ahjuhssi and I’ll drive.”
That decided, the group got to work. An hour later, everyone – minus Chan-wook, who they had left in the van, were comfortable (or in some cases awkwardly) in three rooms at a sea side Love Hotel.
