Story Title: Family Outing
Summary: Chan-wook and all seven of his "kids" spend a day at the beach.
Author's Note: The first story with eight of the nine main characters. Yes, eight people appear here. I'll be honest and admit that it was a bit awkward.

It was the off-season, which meant that the beach was clear of anyone else. Granted, it was also close to freezing.

Sitting in his beach chair, a beer in hand, Chan-wook watched his make shift family. Jiro, Aoi, and Ling’er were playing at the edge of the shore, bare foot and rushing in and out of the ocean; laughingly, they tugged on one another every now and again, lightheartedly trying to get each other to fall into the cold water.

On Chan-wook’s right sat Jin and Taka. Jin had flown out (with help from Kaori) to spend some of the winter with the family. Jin, dressed warmly, sat with a medical text-book in his lap and a pencil in his hand. Taka sat beside him, quietly watching him read. Every now and again, she would point to something in the book. “I’ll explain it to you later. Don’t forget it, Taka.” Jin would tell her with a warm smile.

Glancing back toward where they had parked, Chan-wook caught sight of Eddie and Mason. The two were smoking their cigarettes, in the middle of a deep conversation. The two men had been smoking on the beach, until Jin had told them smoking on the beach was impolite. Jin hadn’t bothered to say who it was impolite too, however. After all, they were the only eight people on the beach.

Taking a small sip of his beer, Chan-wook looked to Jin and Taka. “Our Jin and Taka don’t want to play in the water?”

Taka shook her head slowly, but it was Jin that spoke. “I really should study, Ahjuhssi. Besides, the water is cold.” Jin briefly turned his attention to the three playing at the shore line. They were laughing loudly; Jiro pulling both girls into a huge bear hug. “They’re going to regret it when they have colds tomorrow.”

Chan-wook tried to hold back his laugher, as he questioned: “Dr. Jin has spoken. What about you, Taka? Don’t you want to play with your sisters and brother?” he laughed softly under his breath. “Our Taka doesn’t play, though.”

“It’s dirty,” Taka stated in her usual non-emotional way. “the water is dirty, Ahjuhssi.” she looked from Chan-wook to the three then back again. “People bleed and defecate in that water.”

Chan-wook laughed again. “Yes, they do.”

Making a face, Jin turned back to his book. “Don’t say defecate, Taka.”

“Should she say ‘poop’?” Mason questioned, coming up behind the trio.

“Or ‘shit’?” Eddie added with a wry smile at Jin. “That word is the nicest she can say in this case.”

“It’s the mental image,” Jin confessed awkwardly, looking up at Eddie and Mason. “of defecation. I get that image whenever someone says the word.”

Mason and Eddie exchanged a look, before saying: “Pervert.”

Chan-wook chuckled. “It’s good to be young. You’re allowed to be perverted and tease your family.” he took another sip of his beer. “Ah, taste good.”

*

Placing the wet sand in columns, Mason was sure they looked like the beginnings of a castle. Across from him, Taka made her own tiny columns of sand. Jin, having forgotten his book a while ago, seemed to be measuring his columns; earlier, he had told Mason and Taka that he wanted their sand castle to look Northern European – whatever that meant.

A bit down the beach, Chan-wook, Jiro, and Eddie sat in beach chairs, a table between them. Chan-wook, it seemed, was teaching the two men new gambling tricks. Eddie was making them up easily, but Jiro seemed rusty; after all, he had been playing the part of a Host for two years, it was possible he’d have forgotten a few things.

Near to the three men, Aoi and Ling’er sat on the wet sand, Aoi carefully braiding Ling’er long and dark hair. Ling’er sat happily, telling Aoi all about her latest adventures with Chan-wook and Mason.

The world was a peace, until something suddenly popped into Jiro’s head; “Hey, where exactly are we sleeping tonight?”

“Well,” Chan-wook looked around to find seven pairs of eyes staring at him. “your old Ahjuhssi may have forgotten about rooms.” he chuckled deeply. “Should we sleep on the beach?”

This question was met with seven voices answering at once: “No!”

With another chuckle, Chan-wook shrugged. “I’m going to guess the van is also out of the question?”
