Story Title: Back in Japan
Story: AU: We Are
Summary: In the AU World, Chan-wook takes Takara back to Japan and to her older sister Kaori.
Author's Note: Takes place in the 1980s. Remember in the regular time line, it's Takara being shot and killed that causes Chan-wook to "adopt" his kids. But, in this time line, Takara lived.
Takara had been shot in the chest, but she hadn’t died. Feeling at a loss Chan-wook agreed to bring Takara back to Japan. It had been six years since he had taken her away from Kaori, and neither Kaori nor Chan-wook had bothered to contact one another during that time. It was only after Takara was shot that Can-wook allowed the hospital to call Kaori.
Kaori hadn’t seemed thrilled with the prospect of Takara and Chan-wook coming to Tokyo for a visit, but she had practically demanded that they come all the same. Kaori’s mood swings always gave Chan-wook a headache. One moment she seemed glad to see him, happy to have Takara as a sister, and the next . . . she ignored Takara and was cruel to Chan-wook. At least that’s how it had been six years before.
Now standing in the lobby of Kaori’s apartment building, his hand tightly in Takara’s, Chan-wook couldn’t help but wish they could run away. Chan-wook gave Takara a quick glance, her gaze was fixed on a far off thing that he would never be able to see. She had been in a strange mood all morning – Kaori always had that affect on Takara.
Chan-wook was going to seriously suggest they made a run for it, but was stopped by the sight of Kaori coming out of the elevator. She looked arrogant as ever, her long hair curled and her face perfectly painted with expensive makeup. Chan-wook was sure Kaori’s entire outfit cost more than he and Takara paid in rent every month.
Flashing a smile, Kaori waved; “Geum Chan-wook and Sakurai Takara, two of my favorite people back from the grave.” she paused and giggled softly under her breath. “Perhaps that was not the best turn of phrase.”
“Kaori,” Chan-wook kept his tone harsh. “that’s cruel. Don’t be that way on our first day.”
Kaori offered Chan-wook a tight smile. “Of course!” she glanced briefly at Takara before continuing. “If you’ll excuse me, I just need to run to the ladies.” She smiled tightly again, before rushing off.
Chan-wook stood in silence for a moment, before turning to Takara; “It’s going to be alright, Takara.”
Takara turned to Chan-wook, her dark eyes clear for the first time in days. She smiled widely, mischievously. “We could still make a run for it.”
Chan-wook returned her mischievous grin. "We'll leave her with the check. How about that?"
