Story Title: Trade Off
Summary: Jin teaches Taka how to write and read in English.
Author's Note: The book Taka is reading is Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss.
They had made a deal: he would teach her to write and read in English, and she would help him improve his Japanese. At first the process was painfully slow; Taka had never been one to do well with writing; he had issues with his ‘ka’ sound.
“I m-me-me. . .”
“Meant.”
Taka bopped her head. “I meant what I sa. . .said?” Jin smiled at her brightly. “I meant what I said and I said what I meant.”
If Taka smiled, Jin was sure she’d been grinning as wide as the ocean. Instead, she gave him an awkward high-five.
