Story Title: Helping Hands
Summary: In 2011 Taka helps Ji Sung.

He was going to do it. He was taking her where she wanted and nobody was stopping him; he’d fight off armies and whole countries to do this one thing for her. As she lay half-asleep on her hospital bed he frantically packed a bag for her. Yes, there would be issues and problems – she was close to death, they were both going to be reported missing, and her brothers could kill him. But . . . he had made up his mind.

“Hello,”

Nearly jumping out of his skin, he fell awkwardly against the dresser. “Jesus!” There was a woman, holding a leather bag, standing in the doorway.

The woman standing in the doorway chocked her head to one side. “My name is Taka.”

“I know that.” Regaining himself he moved over to her and dragged her into the door, closing the door behind them. “It’s a . . . never mind. Why are you here?”

Taka, poker face firmly on, pointed to Ling’er. “For her.” That said Taka dropped the leather bag onto the floor. She started toward the nearest wall and began taking the papers and strings on it down. Carefully she placed everything onto the dresser.

He knew those papers and pieces of string well. Ling’er had told him that they were a ‘Wall of Words’ and that Taka had made it for her to help Ling’er remember people and things. He watched Taka for all of a minute, before his attention was captured by the leather bag. Slowly he reached down and opened the bag – it was filled with cash and documents.

“Taka?” Not believing his eyes, he lifted up the identification card that listed his age as twenty-five and his name as Han Ji Sung.

Without looking away from her work Taka replied with a simply; “Yes?”

“How did you. . .”

Taka paused for a moment, before turning to look at him. “Everyone should be allowed to decide.”

“Decide?” He wanted to say more, but didn’t really know what to say.

“How, When, and Where.” She glanced over to Ling’er before turning back to the papers and pieces of string. “If you cannot decide on how and when, you should at least get to decide where.”

Ling’er often said that Taka was different, but this . . . he could hardly understand what was happening, but. . .

“Where’s the money from Taka?”

Taka’s mouth itched up and down, but she didn’t smile. “Sold something.” she paused, silently thinking about something that he would never know. “It was not important.”

He nodded though he really had no idea what she was talking about. Instead of asking questions to things that would never be answered, he simply went back to packing. When he was done, he found Taka helping a half-asleep Ling’er sit up in bed.

“She is sleepy.” Taka stated flatly. “Ji Sung, you carry her. I shall carry the bags.”

Lifting Ling’er into his arms, his heart sank – she was so light in his arms. He silently helped her wrap her arms around his neck; he smiled at her, even though Ling’er couldn’t see him. Even if she could have seen him, he doubted she really would have known who or where she was – she had been so out of it lately.

“Taka . . . you cannot tell any of your insane siblings where we are going.” He kept his eyes firmly on hers. “You have to swear you’ll tell no one about helping us.”

Taka nodded firmly. “You are going where others cannot go.”

“Taka I . . . have no idea what that means.”

Again, Taka’s lips twitched, but didn’t form a smile. “I promise.”

That was all he needed, a simple promise from a girl that never told lies; he doubted she knew how to lie actually. Taka would keep this a secret and Ling’er would at least get to decide where she died.
