Story Title: Routine
Summary: Just a glimpse into Taka and Jiro's life in 2009.
Half-asleep and more than a little drunk Jiro always finds his way home around six; Taka leaves his breakfast in the kitchen. Taka’s already asleep by the time Jiro eats. Sometimes he takes a quick shower afterward, but more often than not Jiro forgets. Instead, he climbs into the bed beside Taka and takes her hand into his. It isn’t long until he’s fast asleep.
When Jiro awakens in the early afternoon, Taka already has lunch made for him. He misses the fact that he no longer wakes up next to her.
Taka sees Jiro off to work at eight o’clock in the evening. She helps him put on the silky jacket to his suit and wishes him well. During the night, Taka does many things. She cleans and does the laundry. She makes fake passports and birth certificates for anyone who asked. She sometimes tries her hand at making fake money, too.
Around ten o’clock, she showers. Taka doesn’t tell Jiro, but she also takes a small nap between two and four. At five-thirty, she makes Jiro’s breakfast and eats her own. Then, at five-fifty, she goes to bed.
At six, when Jiro stumbles into their penthouse, Taka is still awake – though, she pretends to be asleep – and, she hears everything he does. She hears him eat and she always hopes he showers. (He doesn’t sometimes and Taka hates that. He smells like booze, smoke, and perfume.)
Finally, at six-twenty, when Jiro slips his hand into hers, Taka drifts off to sleep.
